OVERVIEW
Salkantay trek 5 days to Machu Picchu tour is an exciting trekking adventure that takes travelers through some of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Peruvian Andes. During this tour, travelers trek through impressive mountains, pass through beautiful green valleys, cross crystal-clear rivers and experience the local culture. The Salkantay trek is the second most popular trek in the Cusco region. You will admire snow-capped mountains, and pass through the cloud forest and the Peruvian jungle, making this one of the most beautiful and interesting treks of Peru
Itinerary
DAY 1. CUSCO – LAGUNA HUMANTAY – SORAYPAMPA
The Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu begins in Cusco, today you will have an early start and we will pick you up from your hotel around 4:30 AM. You will travel in our transportation to the village of Mollepata where you will have an exquisite breakfast overlooking the snow-capped mountain of Salkantay and surrounded by beautiful mountains. Then we will continue to Challacancha, the starting point of the trek. Before starting our adventure, you will meet the muleteers and the chef.
and a variety of flora and fauna. Upon returning to camp, you will enjoy a delicious and well-deserved dinner. We will start with our 3-hour hike that will take us to our first camp Soraypampa (3900 masl). Where we will have lunch with panoramic views of the snowy Humantay. After lunch we ascend to the Humantay lagoon (4200 masl). This spectacular turquoise lagoon and its impressive natural environment, surrounded by imposing mountains.
DAY 2.
This day you will wake up and see the Salkantay Apu right in front of you. Afterwards, you will have a nutritious breakfast and recharge your energy to start our hike to the Salkantay pass which is located at 4630 masl, our first resting point and enjoy the spectacular views and then descend to Huayraqmachay the point where we will have a delicious lunch.
After the revitalizing lunch, we will continue through a spectacular cloud forest until we reach our second camp Chaullay.
DAY 3.
This beautiful day you will wake up with bird songs. Then we will have a delicious breakfast to start our hike, during this tour we will make a quieter walk, with more downhills than uphills. While we immerse ourselves in the lush landscape of beautiful waterfalls, orchids and various plantations: coffee, banana and avocado etc.
We arrive at the beach where we will have a tasty lunch. After lunch we head to our third camp in Lucmabamba (2000 masl). In the afternoon you will have some free time to explore the tropical surroundings and visit organic coffee farm, especially perfect for those who are lovers of this drink.
DAY 4.
This day we will start with a good breakfast to begin with our adventure towards the archaeological site of Llactapata (village on the platform). which is located at 2840 meters above sea level, in this Inca site have a structure you terraces of agricultural production, with an excellent irrigation system. Then we descend to Hydroelectric (1890 masl). Along the way the vegetation is exuberant and of great diversity, the most representative are the orchids.
At this point we will enjoy a delicious lunch. Then we will ascend for about 10 minutes and the rest of the way is flat for 2 hours to Aguas Calientes (2040 masl). Along the way you will marvel at beautiful birds, butterflies and beautiful orchids. Arriving to Aguas Calientes we will go to our hotel; we will have an exquisite dinner in a tourist restaurant.
DAY 5.
This is the last day of our adventure. We start with a good breakfast at the hotel and then ascend for 1 hour and 30 minutes or take the bus for 25 minutes (optional). Once we arrive at the Machu Picchu sanctuary checkpoint, we will start our guided tour for 2 hours. The Inca city of Machu Picchu (2400 masl), this majestic place is surrounded by beautiful mountains.
After the guided tour you will have some free time to explore on your own or visit Machu Picchu Mountain which is located at 3050 (masl). And Huaynapicchu mountain which is located at 2750 (masl), (optional). After marveling we go to the starting point to take the bus to Aguas Calientes, once in Aguas Calientes you have some free time. Then we will go to the station to take the train, it is a 2 hours trip from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo station, here we pick you up in our transport to return to Cusco and take you to your hotel.
