Choquequirao Trek 4 days, a journey that will take you to the heart of the Andean mountains and the hidden jewel of the Inca Empire, Choquequirao. It is Machu Picchu’s lesser-known but equally spectacular cousin, offering a more secluded and immersive experience for intrepid travelers looking to explore Peru’s rich history and breathtaking scenery.
To explore the ruins of Choquequirao is to immerse oneself in an ancient world full of mystery and majesty. Located deep in the mountains of the Vilcabamba range in the Cusco region of Peru, this archaeological site impresses with its ingenious architecture and spectacular natural surroundings.
This Choquequirao archaeological site is known for its impressive architecture, including agricultural terraces, plazas, temples and aqueduct systems. It stretches along a series of stepped terraces that sit high in the mountains, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Itinerary
DAY 1: CUSCO – CAPULIYOC – PLAYA ROSALINA – SANTA ROSA
We leave Cusco early in the morning by private transportation. Approx. at 5:30 am we arrive after 2 hours we reach the village of Curahuasi, where you can order your breakfast (the first breakfast is not included) then we continue for 2 more hours to Capuliyoc (3,200 masl/10498 ft), which is the beginning of the trail, where we meet the rest of our trekking team (Horseman with horses).
We then descend the eastern slopes of the Andes to reach Coca Masana (2,330 masl / 7644 ft), where we rest on the trail and get our first views of the Apurimac valley below and the snow-capped peaks of Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora (5,482 masl / 17985 ft). The temperature rises and the flora and fauna begin to change.
We continue for a two-hour hike downhill to Chikiska (1,750 masl/5741 ft). Then we continue walking to Playa Rosalina (Rosalina Beach) at 1,550 masl / 5085 ft, where we will have our delicious lunch, then we cross the Apurimac River, to walk uphill until we reach our first campsite (Santa Rosa = 1800 masl / 5905 ft).
DAY 2: SANTA ROSA – MARANPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO
On this extraordinary day, you will wake up early and embark on a 1 hour and 30-minute ascent to Marampata, a picturesque village where you will enjoy a well-deserved breakfast. After refueling, you will continue walking for another 1 hour and 30 minutes until you reach the impressive ruins of Choquequirao. This archaeological site we will know step by step, the great skill and intelligence that had the people who built this vestige that makes us relive the glorious era of the Inca empire.
Admiring the beauty and with our heads full of ideas, we watch undaunted the flight of the condors, which around 3:00 p.m. appear in the Choquequirao area when they fly to higher areas. Afterwards we take a road to the Marampata camp where we camp and after dinner, we spend the night here.
Please note that if you prefer not to walk up from Santa Rosa to Marampata, you have the option of renting a horse for an additional cost of 60 soles for a muleteer and 60 soles for a horse, making your trip more comfortable and leisurely.
DAY 3: MARANPATA – CAPULIYOC – CHIKISKA
This day you will wake up early to enjoy breakfast before starting the descent to the river, a journey that will take approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. Upon reaching the river, you will begin a 1-hour ascent to the charming village of Chikiska. Here, you will replenish your strength with a delicious lunch before continuing the ascent for another 3 hours to reach the impressive viewpoint of Capuliyoc.
At Capuliyoc, you can enjoy a delicious dinner and relax by a cozy campfire. Rest for the night in our comfortable mountain cabins, which offer breathtaking views of the Apurimac Canyon and the snow-capped Padreyoc Peak, creating a perfect ending to your day of adventure.
DAY 4: CUSCO
On this relaxing day, you will have the opportunity to sleep in a little later before enjoying breakfast at the camp. Afterwards, you will be guided to a special place to celebrate a traditional ceremony of offering to the earth (Pachamama), which will allow you to immerse yourself in local customs and spiritual practices.
After this unique experience, you will return to the camp to enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterwards, you will return to your home town, taking with you unforgettable memories of your stay in the Andes.
