Itinerary

Day 01: cusco- Ollantaytambo – km.82 Piskacucho – Wayllabamba –  Ayapata

We will pick you up from your hotel in the city of Cusco at 4:00 AM in our private transportation and then head to Ollantaytambo. Here the first stop will be breakfast in a tourist restaurant, then we will move to km.82 Piskacucho (2750 msmn or 9022 ft). Here we will have to register to enter the Inca Trail.

Our adventure begins at km.82 of the railway line (town of Piskacucho) and then across a modern suspension bridge over the Vilcanota river. We will visit the ruins of k’anabamba and further on the ruins of willkaraqhay, from which we can see Patallaqta, also known as Llaqtapata (2700 msmn or 8800 ft). These places are ruins of a gigantic structure of terraces of agricultural production, with an excellent irrigation system.

From Patallacta it is a 2 hour hike to our lunch stop. After lunch we will walk 2 hours and 30 minutes to reach the first night’s campsite Wayllabamba (2700 masl); Ayapata (3200 masl). The campsites are designated by the Ministry of Culture according to availability at the time of booking your Inca Trail.

Day 02: Ayapata – Warmiwañuska – Chakiccocha

In the morning we will drink coca tea to prepare you for the day.  We will start with a steep ascent, visiting Yunkachimpa and Llullucha pampa (3750 msmn). Then we will continue to the highest point of the Inca trail which is the pass of Warmiwañuska (4200 msmn or 13,000ft); from here we descend to Pakaymayu (3500 msmn). Here we will have a delicious lunch.

After lunch we will continue along the original Inca Trail until we reach the Runkuraqhay pass located at 3800 masl. This Inca site has rustic circular walls. We descend again until we reach the Sayacmarka and Konchamarka ruins. Then we will continue to the Chakiccocha camp, where the landscape becomes beautiful and impressive. We will have a well-deserved rest and taste an exquisite dinner prepared by a chef.

Day 03: Chakicocha – Wiñayhuayna

This day we will begin with a nutritious breakfast, and we will start walking for 2 hours until we reach the pass of Phuyupatamarca (town of the clouds), located at 3650 meters above sea level. Then we continue to the cloud forest, where you will marvel at spectacular views with beautiful waterfalls, a variety of orchids and birds such as parrots and parakeets.

After lunch, we descend for 3 hours down a flight of stairs to Intipata (sun terraces), which is located at 2840 meters above sea level. We arrive at our last camp, which is Wiñayhuayna and is located at 2650 meters above sea level. It is a set of concave-shaped terraces, beautifully arranged. This place is the most popular camp due to its proximity to Machu Picchu. Your guide will explain the importance of the Inca site, so you will be fully prepared for your visit to Machu Picchu the next day.

Day 04: Wiñayhuayna – Puerta del Sol – Machu Picchu – Cusco

This is the last day of our trek, we start with an exquisite breakfast. Then we say goodbye to our team of porters and chefs, then we start the hike to Intipunku (Sun Gate). Located at 2745 meters above sea level, it is the first point from where you can see the Inca city of Machupicchu in all its splendor, associated with an impressive panorama of the river and the high mountains.

We continue for 1 hour more to reach Machu Picchu, as we go on the views will be more splendid. At 8:00 AM, we will arrive at the checkpoint and enter Machu Picchu to begin our 2 hour guided tour. Afterwards you will have some free time to explore on your own.

Afterwards you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes, where you can enjoy your lunch (optional). After lunch head to the train station to take the return train which takes 2 hours to Ollantaytambo station, from here we pick you up in our transportation to return to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
